Seeing Dr. Millis
I will be seeing Dr. Millis this July during my vacation to Cape Cod. It will have been 2 years since I have seen him.... over 4 years since the surgery. I will have x-rays done before the appt (no MRI) and am hopeful that my hip still looks good he will encourage my running! I have not had any pain from running (not from my hips anyways!) and will be running in the Disney Tower of Terror 10 miler in Sept...... and will soon be registering for the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon for Feb. I am amazed at what he can do..... fixing my hip (with my own parts) to the point that I am able to run pain free....when before PAO I couldn't sit or walk pain free. I ran 6 miles yesterday..... in the afternoon..... in June....in Florida.... in 90 degree heat..... and felt wonderful!!! I did take a few walking breaks... only because I didn't want to get heat stroke! I am so thankful to Dr. M... sent his assistant an email last night trying to confirm the day and time for appt and copied him on the email. I got an out of office reply back from him...that he was gone until June 11th.... yet I got an email back from him this morning. He is unlike any doctor I have ever met. I am trying to think of something I can give him.... as a thank you.... thought maybe pictures of me wearing my 1/2 marathon medals?? With a nice thank you written on it?

That would be a really good thank you! And yes he is such an amazing doctor who takes the time and REALLY listens. Have a safe and fun trip and visit!
Katie... I just viewed your blog... I have a post about how many girls have been diagnosed at age 28!!! Weird... Must be something about that age!! Hope you are doing well!!
Hi! I just found your blog today, I was diagnosed with Hip displasia on May 11th of 2012. I live in Ohio and my orthopedic Dr. has referred me to a Dr. Santore in San Diego, California. I am currently waiting to hear from the San Diego office as to "what's next". I to am a stay at home mom of 3, my youngest is 4 oldest is 7. I am a once upon a time teacher, I was hoping to return to teaching this fall, however with surgery hanging over my head I doubt that will happen. My question to you is: How long did it take Dr. Millis to schedule you for surgery? Once you saw him, did he schedule it months out or did he do it right away?
Hi Jill!
I saw Dr. Millis around Thanksgiving of 2007... and had the surgery in Jan... He didn't want me to wait long... as I had damage done from a previous hip scope.... and he said if I waited much longer my hip would be deterioated so much PAO would not be an option.
Have you met the dcotor in CA? Couldn't hurt to send Dr Millis in Boston an email.... he is fantastic.... I sent him an email with my story... and he replied right away asking for x-rays, MRI and told me to call his office for an appt. Before my appt he called me himself confirming.... and the night before surgery called my cell... He is unlike any doctor I have met and am forever in debt to him for giving me my life back! I have a link to his info somewhere on my page.... you can tell him I sent you :)
As for returning to work this fall.... depends on when surgery is.... it is a long recovery... but well worth it.
I used wheelchair, walker, crutches, one crutch and then a cane.... all in all about 10 weeks before walking with no aid.
Good luck!
Hi! Thank you for your blog! I do not have what you have, but I do have a femoral neck stress fracture, and was about to train for the Walt Disney World Marathon when it happened. Ive been on a crutch now for about 5 weeks, but your blog and your story is very encouraging. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for blogging your story! I had LPAO done 4 years ago and just completed my first triathlon. Ready to sign up for a 1/2 marathon now! I was never a runner before but now that I'm pain free I'm able to participate in activities I never thought possible! Keep up the pain free running!
I've been encourage reading this post as well as those from fellow readers. Their input has helped strengthen my own story. I'm a runner myself, got injured just last week, and had to stop to heal a broken leg ;)
Hi all! I have just been diagnosed at age 32 after over 3 years of searching and a surgery to repair left labour and retrace left femor head. I'll be honest...I'm scared right now. Surgery isn't easy as we all know but worthwhile.
I also have a husband and 2 kids...7 & a 14 year old step daughter. Im lucky they're self sufficient. I find out tomorrow if the arthritis will prevent me from having this surgery (pao). Anyhow, i would love to email with any of you for support to and from. Thanks for the positive blog!! So reassuring!
I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Santore on June 5, 2017. I know your pay was dated 2012, so I just wanted to follow up with you to see how your surgery went, Ave how you're doing now. Thank you!
