Check up

I saw Dr Millis today... X-rays and check up.... Everything looks great and I got his approval to "keep running" :). I also met a Dr that has been training under him... He will soon be doing PAO's in Memphis.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I had not noticed you'd replied. I just had my surgery on June 20th. So it was 4 weeks yesterday. You are so right, Dr. Millis is "THE MAN!" I love him and his team. I had my surgery at Beth Isreal. Because of my age and I do have high blood preasure I couldn't have it done at Children's. I'm from upstate NY and on Friday I'll be going to my local hospital for my first x-rays. It's GREAT that you're doing so well and running like you do, congratulations!

Hey! Reading this gives me hope that I would someday be able to run again after these surgeries. I ran two Boston Marathons and a few half marathons before finding out I had hip dysplasia. Dr. Millis did my RPAO in April and am planning on doing my left at some point next year.

At what point did you start running again? Did you have resistance from your friends/family who knew what you went through? I feel like when I actually start running again, I'll be sort of a "closet runner". People are calling me crazy for even thinking about running again. I still haven't grieved the loss of running, and am not sure if I am willing to give it up completely. Thanks for your story!

MY PAO STORY said...

Hi!! I was never a "runner" before PAO... I had started light jogging but my hip would hurt. I didn't start running after PAO until maybe a year after?? Don't really remember... Maybe sooner... Dr Millis was a bit hesitant at first... Told me to "be careful", "listen to my body"...
But... After seeing him this July, and him looking at my X-rays and examining me... Knowing I've done 2 1/2 marathons he told me to keep running!!! :)
My family members did think I was crazy... And after the 1st half said "ok... You've done it.. Now stop"... And we're worried I would hurt my hip... Even though I kept saying I had no pain...
My second 1/2 was rough because of my knee! IT Band Syndrome! Not my hip!!
Now... With Dr Millis telling me it's ok... I hope that eases any fears of me doing damage...
My left hip was not as bad as my right.... Causes me no pain... And no plans to do PAO on that hip...
I hope your recovery is going well... And yes you should be running again in the future!

Can you tell me who the doctor is that you met who is moving to Memphis? Was it Dr. Spence by chance?
