MRI and Dr. Millis Appointment

We flew into Boston last Wednesday and had an MRI Thursday morning. After the MRI I met with Dr. Millis. He viewed my x-rays and MRI....and everything looks good!! The degrees that he measured were almost normal, and before the RPAO they were way off. We viewed the before and after - and he was pleased. After all the questionnaires I filled out, I came to the conclusion that the only time I am aware of my hip is when it pops (which it does daily but does not hurt) and occassionally when I get an ache (from the arthritis which is still there). My hip does not prevent me from doing ANYTHING!! I told Dr M that I had been jogging lately - up to 3 miles. He told me that he would not tell me that I couldn't - and told me that biking and elliptical are better. He also told me that if I was 15 and had the surgery - he would tell me I have no limits, that I could do what I want. However, I am almost 35, and he just told me to be careful. If my hip ever starts to hurt - I will stop the jogging. He again stated that it is his hopes that he has corrected my hip - for good. He also told me that if I had not had the surgery, I would have had 3 years tops on the hip before it would have been so deteriorated that a new hip would be needed. I am SOOOO glad that Dr M has fixed me.....I feel like a new woman!! I am on vacation in Cape Cod....and have been jogging 3 miles a day AND going for bike rides.....and feel GREAT!!!!

That's fabulous!! I'm so envious that you can run, I don't think I'll ever be there but life is good without pain =)

Not to sound stalkerish, but I just finished flipping through your entire blog and I just wanted to say thank you for your story..

I am 19 and heading up to Boston for my own PAO pretty soon and I am sooo nervous! Pain only onset about a year ago and diagnoses wasnt reached until 5 months ago... I've never even broken a bone and now I need major surgery?? Reading your story was very reassuring and I cant wait to have my life back and it's encouraging to hear someone who has been through it remind me that it will work out. Hopefully my recovery will go as well as yours! Take care!

I was one of the unfortunate ones...........I was probably who he was referring to when he said if you waited 3 years, you'd need a new hip! LOL. I went to Dr. M as well in fall of 2008. He advised against the PAO as I had a scope which made my CHD worse (arthritis, bone-on-bone, etc.). I'm glad he could "fix you" before it was too late! You are very fortunate to have found him. He's incredible.

Hi -
I am a woman in my late 30s with fairly mild hip dysplasia. Considering a PAO. Like you, I have young children. Would like to connect with you via email if possible.

Hi - Sitting in a hospital just on the outskirts of London with my 15 year old daughter who yesterday had her PAO op. She is sleeping at the moment so I am reading through recovery blogs and came across yours. Very inspirational and I hope and pray that my daughter makes such an amazing recovery and will learn to run too as she has never been able to run, ever, in her life before :) Thank you for recording your journey and all the best for the future. Caroline
